ABOUT JEONJU

Jeonju is renowned throughout South Korea as a culinary paradise, and for good reason. As the country's gastronomic capital, it offers a tantalizing array of dishes that are sure to delight even the most discerning palate.

One of the must-try dishes in Jeonju is bibimbap, a colourful rice bowl topped with an assortment of seasoned vegetables, meat (usually beef), a fried egg, and spicy gochujang (red chili paste) sauce. The ingredients are mixed together just before eating, creating a harmonious blend of flavours and textures. Jeonju-style bibimbap is particularly famous for its use of high-quality local ingredients and meticulous presentation.

But the culinary delights of Jeonju extend far beyond bibimbap. The city is also known for its delicious street food, including savoury pancakes (jeon) filled with kimchi, seafood, or vegetables, and crispy fried chicken served with a variety of dipping sauces.

For those looking to quench their thirst, Jeonju is also a paradise for lovers of makgeolli, a traditional Korean rice wine. Served in copper pots, makgeolli has a slightly sweet and tangy flavour with a milky white appearance. It pairs perfectly with the spicy and savoury flavours of Jeonju's cuisine, making it the ideal accompaniment to a hearty meal.

But perhaps the most memorable aspect of dining in Jeonju is the sense of tradition and authenticity that permeates every dish. Whether you're dining in a coSy hanok (traditional Korean house) restaurant or sampling street food from a bustling market stall, you'll be treated to the warm hospitality and genuine passion for food that defines Jeonju's culinary scene.
